SonyBMG Saga: the conclusions

The recent saga around the SonyBMG DRM has proven 2 points:

1. DRM is still a widely unknown acronymn. How can you otherwise explain that the top of SonyBMG didn’t understand what the problem was when they installed software on a users computer with the capabilities of releasing virus-hell. It is clearly that they see DRM as a tool to protect their copyright at a max. When will they understand that the effort put in those activities could better be used in developping a version of DRM which is better suited for the future such as licenced based DRM, where a user can purchase the license he wants for the device of his choice.

2. DRM is short for Digital Copyright Managemant since only the copyright holders have rights. The rights of the buyer are neglected by companies who own the copyright. Let us hope that DRM can evolve in a more aquel distribution of rights where the rights of the buyer are respected.
